Belle

Belle is Scrooge’s former fiancée. She is introduced to the reader in the vision displayed by the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Belle ultimately left Scrooge due to his developing traits of greed and avarice, which had replaced his previous humility and generosity. Belle comments on Scrooge’s changed nature, and her inability to live alongside someone who will never be satisfied by non-material gains.

Belle ultimately marries another man, and fosters a large and happy family. Much unlike Scrooge who festers in isolation, Belle has established a joyful and fulfilling life.
