Mr Pumblechook, also known as Uncle Pumblechook (being Pip’s uncle-in-law) is a pompous and entitled middle-class man, obsessed with prospects of wealth and social superiority. He is constantly characterised by his arrogance, egotistical nature, and the “chaise-cart” which he flaunts as a symbol of his prestige and meretricious affluence. Mr Pumblechook also persistently takes credit for Pip’s rise in fortune and status despite only being responsible for arranging Pip’s initial invitation to Satis House.
