Genre analysis

Genres provide a guideline of the subject matter of the novel – what the author is influenced by, and what central issues it may portray. There are certain periods and genres that have been influential in shaping novels not just during their own time, but also in contemporary literature. The two most commonly studied literary periods are the Regency and Romantic periods, both of which are influenced by significant historical and philosophical movements.
