Although they shaped the world of theatre as we know it, Shakespeare’s plays do not conform to the structure and conventions of other plays you might have studied. For example, while each play is divided into five acts, the division into acts and scenes is not particularly relevant to the narrative structure since it was made after Shakespeare’s death and is therefore not an authorial decision.
