Mr Bell

Mr Bell is a close friend of the Hales, and was Mr Hale’s best man at his wedding. He grew up in Milton, but now lives in Oxford as a tutor, citing the same repulsion to the manufacturing town as those in the South. He grows incredibly fond of Margaret after meeting her, and ends up leaving her everything he owns once he dies.
