Balthasar

Balthasar is Romeo’s servant who brings the rope ladder to the nurse which will allow Romeo to visit Juliet in her room on their wedding night. Living in Verona still after Romeo’s exile, he hears of Juliet’s death and immediately heads to Mantua to inform Romeo of Juliet’s passing. He also accompanies Romeo to Juliet’s tomb and remains and watching the events unfolding hiding nearby as Romeo had asked him to leave. When Friar Lawrence eventually arrives, he relays to the Friar all that he knows, but he still does not enter the tomb.
