The prologue is littered with instances of foreshadowing. It states that Romeo’s old feelings of love for Rosaline have withered away and have been replaced by a new burning desire for the young and beautiful Juliet. By contrast, Rosaline no longer seems beautiful now in comparison. Both Romeo and Juliet have fallen for each other’s good looks. However, the future is ominous for the young couple as their families are enemies and they have no chance to see each other and exchange words and actions that lovers usually do. However, it is expressed that time and power may afford them the chance to meet; however, due to the warring nature of their families, this will be fraught with danger.
