The Great Gatsby

Jordan shares a long-term friendship with Daisy, acting as a gateway to the golfer’s romantic relationship with Nick. She is a woman about town, attending Gatsby’s parties, where on one known occasion she is recognised for her celebrity. She stands in stark contrast to the airy, sweet and sentimental nature of Daisy, instead, acting quite unenthused, blunt and somewhat cynical. She makes comments that are witty and observant (“large parties [are] so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy” and “it’s a great advantage not to drink among hard-drinking people”) signifying her intelligence.
