Aerobic vs Anaerobic
- Aerobic respiration is the most efficient energy transfer method in animals under normal, non-strenuous conditions.
- Animals typically undergo aerobic respiration while resting.
- During intense exercise, when blood can't supply enough oxygen quickly to muscles, animals switch to anaerobic respiration.
- Key differences between aerobic and anaerobic respiration include oxygen requirement, by-products, and energy output.
- Aerobic respiration requires oxygen, completely breaks down glucose, and produces carbon dioxide and water, releasing a lot of energy.
- Anaerobic respiration does not require oxygen, results in incomplete glucose breakdown, and produces less energy.
- The by-products of anaerobic respiration in animals are lactic acid, while in plants and yeast, they are carbon dioxide and ethanol.
