  • A droplet of blood can be examined under a microscope using a microscope slide.
  • A droplet of blood contains millions of cells and platelets.
  • Stains are used to make cells and platelets visible under the microscope.
  • Different types of blood cells can be recognized in photographs or diagrams.
  • Red blood cells appear as small circles or ovals, colored reddish pink under the microscope.
  • White blood cells are larger, have a nucleus, and are usually stained purple or blue, making the nucleus appear in a darker color.
  • Platelets are tiny dots, often pink and purple, and require high magnification to be seen clearly.
