Effects of Diet & Exercise
- A balanced diet is crucial for a healthy lifestyle.
- A healthy diet includes fruits, vegetables, proteins (from animals, fish, or plants), carbohydrates (including fibers), and healthy fats (from seeds, nuts, and vegetable oils).
- Exercise is also essential for good health, with activities like cardio (walking, running, swimming), sports, and weightlifting being beneficial.
- An unhealthy diet and lack of exercise can lead to health issues such as heart disease and obesity.
- Diets high in sugar, cholesterol, or saturated fats are unhealthy and can lead to excessive energy intake.
- High cholesterol and saturated fat intake can cause fatty deposits in arteries, leading to narrowed arteries and decreased blood flow, potentially resulting in cardiovascular diseases.
- Obesity, a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, is often caused by diets high in sugar or carbohydrates.
- Type 2 diabetes occurs when cells do not respond to insulin, which regulates blood glucose levels. It is managed through a balanced diet and regular exercise.
- Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to classify individuals as overweight or obese, but it can be inaccurate for muscular individuals.
- The risk of developing type 2 diabetes increases with higher BMI levels.
- The graph shows a correlation between increased BMI and higher risk of type 2 diabetes, indicating that risk increases in the overweight and obese categories.
