Embryo Transplants

1:13 Cloning in Animals
Spec 4.6.2.5
  • Embryo cloning is a basic technique of animal cloning.
  • The process begins with sperm from a bull being artificially inseminated into a cow.
  • Artificial insemination involves introducing sperm into a uterus either naturally or artificially.
  • Multiple embryos then develop and are subsequently removed from the cow's uterus.
  • These embryos are split into more embryos before the cells specialize.
  • Identical embryos are transplanted into host mothers.
  • As a result, multiple clones are born.
  • This method is used to produce uniform offspring from parents with desirable characteristics, such as dairy cows that produce a lot of milk.
  • Understanding the steps of this process may be required for exam questions.
