Thermoregulatory Centre

1:35 Control of Body Temperature
Spec 4.5.2.4
  • The Thema Regulatory Center is located in the brain and regulates body temperature.
  • It is positioned near the center of the brain.
  • The center sends signals to initiate cooling processes when the body is hot.
  • It also triggers heating processes to warm the body when it is cold.
  • The Thermo Regulatory Center coordinates three main processes: shivering, diverting blood flow, and sweating.
  • These processes are controlled by nervous impulses from the Thermo Regulatory Center.
  • The center contains receptors sensitive to blood temperature, which help it monitor body temperature.
  • Skin also has temperature receptors that send information to the Thermo Regulatory Center via nervous impulses.
  • These impulses are transmitted through nerve cells, or neurons.
