  • Translocation is the movement of dissolved sugars produced by photosynthesis.
  • For exams, it's important to define translocation as the movement of photosynthesis products, which use energy from sunlight.
  • Carbon dioxide and water are essential for photosynthesis, entering through stomata and roots respectively.
  • Oxygen, a byproduct of photosynthesis, diffuses out of leaves.
  • Glucose produced in the palisade cells of leaves is transported around the plant.
  • Translocation is necessary for delivering sugars needed for respiration and growth.
  • The phloem, located in the veins of the leaf as part of the vascular bundle, transports sugars throughout the plant.
  • Sugars are also delivered to storage organs like tubers and roots for later use, particularly during winter.
