- Adult stem cells can differentiate into specific types of specialized cells based on their location.
- Bone marrow stem cells can form various types of blood cells such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
- Adult stem cells are termed multipotent because they can differentiate into multiple, but limited, cell types.
- Once adult stem cells specialize, they cannot revert back to being stem cells or change into different types of specialized cells.
- Adult stem cells play a crucial role in replacing cells and repairing body parts when injured, aiding in healing processes like bone fractures and skin cuts.
- The primary function of adult stem cells in organisms is to facilitate healing and regeneration.
