Calculating Speed
- Speed is calculated as the distance traveled divided by time.
- Important equation: Speed = Distance / Time.
- Larger speeds cover more distance in less time.
- In symbols: Speed (V) = Distance (S) / Time (T).
- Speed is assumed to be a fixed value.
- Time is measured in seconds, distance in meters, and speed in meters per second.
- Example: Helicopter travels at 90 meters per second.
- Calculate time to travel 45 kilometers.
- Convert 45 kilometers to 45,000 meters.
- Rearrange equation to solve for time: Time = Distance / Speed.
- Substitute values: Time = 45,000 meters / 90 meters per second = 500 seconds.
