  • Example: Making a salad involves combining ingredients like lettuce, tomato, and carrots.
  • A mixture is formed by combining individual ingredients.
  • A formulation is a mixture designed as a useful product.
  • Example: A salad can be considered a formulation because it combines ingredients to achieve desired flavors.
  • Formulations are made by mixing components in carefully measured quantities to ensure required properties.
  • Example: Paint is a formulation made up of a solvent, colored pigments, and a binder.
  • Paint needs to stick to surfaces, be spreadable, and have distinct colors.
  • For exams, know that paint is a formulation but not the specific components.
  • Other examples of formulations: fuels, cleaning agents, medicines, alloys, fertilizers, and foods.
  • Fuels like petrol power vehicles.
  • Cleaning products like bleach remove stains and kill harmful bacteria.
  • Medicines like flu tablets treat flu symptoms.
