Recovering from Oxygen Debt

1:08 Exercise and the Human Body
Spec 4.4.2.2
  • Oxygen debt is the extra oxygen needed by the body after exercise.
  • This oxygen reacts with accumulated lactic acid to remove it from cells.
  • Post-exercise, lactic acid buildup causes continued breathlessness.
  • Removed lactic acid is transported via blood from muscles to the liver.
  • In the liver, lactic acid is converted back into glucose.
  • This glucose is later used in aerobic respiration.
