- Oxygen debt is the extra oxygen needed by the body after exercise.
- This oxygen reacts with accumulated lactic acid to remove it from cells.
- Post-exercise, lactic acid buildup causes continued breathlessness.
- Removed lactic acid is transported via blood from muscles to the liver.
- In the liver, lactic acid is converted back into glucose.
- This glucose is later used in aerobic respiration.
