Synapses
- A synapse is a gap that connects two neurons.
- Synapses allow information to travel from one neuron to another in a specific direction.
- Information travels within neurons as an electrical impulse.
- At the synapse, the electrical impulse is converted to a chemical signal.
- Chemicals travel across the synapse via diffusion.
- These chemicals move from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
- Upon reaching the opposite side of the synapse, chemicals bind to the membrane of the next neuron, triggering an electrical impulse.
