Character Analysis

Nick Bottom

Bottom the Weaver is an aspiring actor, introduced to the audience as someone who loves attention but is also incredibly hopeless and lacks an imagination. He is brash and slightly stupid, and Shakespeare relies on slapstick humour to characterise him. He provides comic relief and is also easier to understand (in terms of language) than some of the other characters, making him more appealing to a diverse audience.
