Character Analysis

Doctor John Seward

Doctor Seward’s prejudice heavily favours science, but because the realities of his situation cannot be explained by science, he is unable to acknowledge the truth of Lucy’s disease until it is too late. His journal entries are purely rational, recounting the events in a logical and detached manner. And yet, all of his scientific knowledge is completely futile in the fight against Dracula. His cemented belief in a systematic approach is repeatedly contrasted to Van Helsing’s views, which are completely antithetical to his own.
