Structure

Shelley’s Frankenstein has a very complex structure, largely due to the fact that it is a framed or ‘embedded’ narrative. In other words, it is a story within a story within a story! Robert Walton’s narration acts as the text’s outermost layer. He recounts his experiences in an epistolary format, through letters he is delivering to his sister, Margaret.
