Character Analysis

Dolge Orlick

Dolge Orlick is the “morose journeyman” that works as a day labourer in Joe’s forge and is depicted by Dickens as a truly evil character. Dickens establishes the character of Orlick to be an amoral figure of malice, deriving joy from the suffering of others. This is evidenced by his physical attributes being a "loose limbed swarthy fellow [. . . ] always slouching" as well as the unsettlingly gluttonous and grotesque sound of his name.
