Background Information

When studying any of Shakespeare’s texts, it is important to be fully immersed within the times during which he lived and the lifestyle that he led. This foundational knowledge will actually help you understand some significant references made in his plays. While it is beneficial to include context within your essays to enrich your arguments and demonstrate a broad understanding of the text, make sure you are not writing entire paragraphs about background information. Otherwise, you are wasting valuable words when you should be strengthening your essay with analysis!
