Structural Features Analysis

The structural features of Hamlet should make up a large portion of your analysis, so it’s important that you are aware of the techniques and devices utilised by Shakespeare to create meaning. While it is good to include techniques like similes, personification, and imagery, looking beyond that is where you are going to find the top marks. Try to extend your analysis to be more customised to the text type. For example, if you were analysing a film holistically, you would look at camera angles, shots, lighting, and music, amongst other things. Similarly, if you were analysing a poem, it would be important to look at rhyming patterns and extended metaphors. Therefore, you have to look for the same specifics when analysing plays and dramas, because it is a unique storytelling genre. We are going to analyse all of these structural features in this section.
