Character Analysis

Georgiana Reed

Georgiana’s beauty is envied by both Jane and her sister Eliza, as it is Georgiana’s beauty that allows her to live vainly, with no need to take responsibility or do any work as she is easily able to garner the attention of distinguished men. Thus, she epitomises desirable women in the 1800s – beautiful but dependent. Though she is spiteful towards Jane in her childhood, in adulthood she commends her for her skills and talent, the two forming a friendship of sorts. Eventually, Georgiana moves to London and marries a wealthy gentleman, as has always been her intended path.
