Jane Eyre

Though Helen is only a transient character throughout the novel, she leaves a lasting impact on Jane and her beliefs. She could be seen as the polar opposite of Jane – she is docile and does not feel the desire to defy those who do her wrong, unlike Jane, who cannot help but despise those who deny her love. Helen believes that God will take care of her in the afterlife and thus, she should not mourn the tragedies of her mortal existence, as such a task is pointless.
