John Reed

John Reed encompasses all that is wrong with a patriarchal society, in his greed, gluttony, and pride. He abused Jane in her childhood and felt entitled to do so as she was merely a lowly orphan with no material possessions. He even boasted to her that everything at Gateshead would soon belong to him.
