Character Analysis

Caroline Bingley

Caroline is the unmarried sister of Bingley and is completely infatuated with the prospect of marrying Darcy. As such, she does everything in her power to talk down Elizabeth to him. Caroline is petty, mean, and selfish, although beautiful and
outwardly “accomplished.” She is unbearably sycophantic towards Darcy, even in the absence of any interest from him. She is consistently snobbish towards the less wealthy and ‘unrefined’ Bennets, which is ironic in the light of her family’s money coming from trade, making her a part of the nouveau riche looked down upon by the landed gentry.
