Character Analysis

Mr and Mrs Gardiner

Mr Gardiner is Mrs Bennet’s brother, but despite his relatively lowly status compared to the other characters in the book, both he and his wife stand out as bastions of integrity and kindness.  Their attention and care towards Elizabeth partly make up for her own parents’ deficiencies. They embody the idea that a person’s worth is not dependent on their social status, particularly when contrasted with Lady Catherine de Bourgh, the highest ranking character in the novel and an all-round horrible person.
