Scene-by-Scene Analysis

Act 2 Scene 3

The scene opens with the dawn of the next day, as Friar Lawrence is leaving his cell to fetch medicinal herbs when Romeo arrives. Romeo is happy to admit that he has not been to bed the previous night and that he has found true love. Upon revealing this he asks the Friar to wed him and Juliet Capulet that very day. Through the use of rhyme, it is clear that Romeo’s heart is set on marrying Juliet and he will stop at nothing to achieve this, for true love does not care about the friction between families.
