Scene-by-Scene Analysis

Act 4 Scene 3

Through the use of clever excuses, Juliet convinces both her mother and the nurse to leave her alone and she retires for the evening. Once alone Juliet prepares, through a soliloquy, to drink from the vile provided by Friar Lawrence. Despite the terrible fear that she might never reawaken at all, or that she might wake too soon and be alone among all of the dead Capulets, she takes Friar Lawrence’s potion and falls into a deep, deathly sleep.
