Chielo

Chielo (pronounced Chi-el-oh) is the sole oracle of Umuofia and is the spiritual link between the people and their god Agbala whom she communicates with in the Cave of the Hills. Chielo is the upmost authority in Umuofia; she commands the death of Ikemefuna, she takes Ezinma away from Okonkwo without question and she has guided Ekwefi through her unsuccessful pregnancies. Her authority is derived from her connection to the gods that the people of Umuofia are at times fearful of.
