  • A mirror creates the illusion that an object is on the other side when it's not.
  • Example: A vase in front of a mirror appears to have a duplicate on the other side.
  • The "image" is not real; it's a reflection.
  • Our eyes perceive an object's location by where light rays converge.
  • Light reflects off objects in all directions, some reaching our eyes.
  • Light rays are assumed to be thin and travel in a single direction.
  • Our brains interpret the convergence of light rays as the object's location.
  • A mirror changes the path of light rays from an object.
  • Light reflects off the mirror in a predictable manner.
  • Our brains think light rays converge behind the mirror, creating an image.
  • The brain is tricked into thinking the object is behind the mirror.
  • A simple diagram can explain how a mirror image forms.
