  • Velocity is the speed of an object in a given direction and is a vector quantity.
  • Scalars have only magnitude, while vectors have both direction and magnitude.
  • Velocity describes how an object, like a helicopter, will move.
  • Velocity includes both magnitude (speed) and direction.
  • Example: A helicopter's speed is 150 meters per second, moving east.
  • Velocity direction can be described in various ways, such as compass directions or angles.
  • Velocity differs from speed; two objects with the same speed but different directions have different velocities.
  • Example: Two cars traveling at 30 meters per second in different directions have different velocities.
  • One velocity can be described as negative if objects are moving in opposite directions.
  • Confusing speed and velocity is a common error in exams.
