Resource cycles and environmental change

  • The brain controls complex behaviour. It is made of billions of interconnected neurones and has different regions that carry out different functions.

  • Cerebral cortex: divided into left and right hemispheres, responsible for consciousness, memories, intelligence, and the ability to use language.
  • Cerebellum: controls and coordinates the movements of muscles.
  • Medulla: controls unconscious/involuntary activities (e.g. heart rate, breathing).
