The New Personal Statement, Answered

Oct 14th, 2026 6:30pm (BST)

The New Personal Statement, Answered

UCAS has replaced the personal statement with three set questions, and most families are still writing the old one and cutting it into three. In this live session, SnapRevise is joined by Cambridge educated admissions specialist Dr Peter Kim takes each question in turn: what it is genuinely asking, what admissions tutors actually read, and how to fill four thousand characters with evidence rather than adjectives. Includes a practical drafting plan for the weeks before the January deadline, plus guidance for parents on how to help without taking over. Live questions welcome throughout. WHAT THE SESSION WILL COVER · The three questions, in UCAS' own words why do you want to study this subject, how have your studies prepared you, and what else have you done outside education. · What each question is really asking and the most common misreading of each one. Question two is the one almost everybody gets wrong. · Why you cannot simply chop up the old statement the questions are not three slices of the same essay and they do not deserve equal space. · The character rules, and what they mean in practice four thousand characters across the whole thing, and at least three hundred and fifty in each answer. · Showing rather than claiming how to replace “I am passionate about” with something an admissions tutor can actually believe. · Question three when you have no work experience which is most people, and is far less of a problem than families assume. · What tutors skim and what they genuinely read and where in each answer the attention actually falls. · A three week drafting plan what to have written by when, so nothing is being finished at midnight on 13 January. · For parents how to help without taking over, and the four questions to ask instead of editing.

What Makes An Application Interesting

Nov 18th, 2026 6:30pm (GMT)

What Makes An Application Interesting

Join SnapRevise and university admissions expert Dr Peter Kim for a live session where he explains what actually makes an application interesting to the person reading it: the difference between a list of activities and a genuine intellectual story, what super curricular really means, and why depth always beats breadth. He also tackles the question parents ask most, which is what is worth paying for. The honest answer is that the best of it is free, and the expensive options often read worse. Practical for Year 12 students building this now, and for Year 13 students writing it up. Live questions welcome throughout. What the webinar covers: · The difference between a list and a story why most applications read as an inventory of activities, and what the good ones do instead. · Super curricular versus extra curricular a distinction almost nobody explains properly, and the one that actually matters. · Depth beats breadth, every time one thing pursued seriously is worth more than six things sampled. · What counts, honestly reading, essay competitions, olympiads, online courses, lectures, podcasts, the EPQ, and work experience. Which of these earn their place and which are filler. · How to do this with no money and no contacts the best super curriculars are free, and the expensive ones often read worse. This matters enormously to families who feel priced out. · Reading one book properly rather than listing five. What a tutor can tell from a single sentence about a book. · The so what test it is not what you did. It is what you now think because of it. · For Year 12 how to build this deliberately over the next nine months, starting this term. · For Year 13 how to write up what you already have, when the deadline is weeks away. · For parents what to encourage, what to stop paying for, and why the impressive sounding placement often works against a candidate.
