The New Personal Statement, Answered

UCAS has replaced the personal statement with three set questions, and most families are still writing the old one and cutting it into three. In this live session, SnapRevise is joined by Cambridge educated admissions specialist Dr Peter Kim takes each question in turn: what it is genuinely asking, what admissions tutors actually read, and how to fill four thousand characters with evidence rather than adjectives. Includes a practical drafting plan for the weeks before the January deadline, plus guidance for parents on how to help without taking over. Live questions welcome throughout. WHAT THE SESSION WILL COVER · The three questions, in UCAS' own words why do you want to study this subject, how have your studies prepared you, and what else have you done outside education. · What each question is really asking and the most common misreading of each one. Question two is the one almost everybody gets wrong. · Why you cannot simply chop up the old statement the questions are not three slices of the same essay and they do not deserve equal space. · The character rules, and what they mean in practice four thousand characters across the whole thing, and at least three hundred and fifty in each answer. · Showing rather than claiming how to replace “I am passionate about” with something an admissions tutor can actually believe. · Question three when you have no work experience which is most people, and is far less of a problem than families assume. · What tutors skim and what they genuinely read and where in each answer the attention actually falls. · A three week drafting plan what to have written by when, so nothing is being finished at midnight on 13 January. · For parents how to help without taking over, and the four questions to ask instead of editing.
