  • Sound is sampled at regular time intervals and stored in binary. A higher sample rate/bit depth means better sound, but a bigger file.
  • Important terms: 
    • Sample rate: number of samples per second (measured in Hz). 
    • Bit depth: bits used to store each sample (e.g. 8-bit, 16-bit). 
    • Duration: length of the sound in seconds.
