The Indus Basin Irrigation System, Pakistan
Overview
  • One of the largest irrigation systems in the world, supplying water to over 14 million hectares of farmland.
  • Uses a network of dams, canals, and reservoirs.
Advantages
  • Increased food production (e.g. wheat, rice).
  • Increased use of hydroelectric power.
  • Improved incomes and reduced hunger.
Disadvantages
  • Waterlogging damages soil.
  • People are deprived of water downstream.
