Scene-by-Scene Analysis

Act 5 Scene 2

In the final scene of the play, a lot of action takes place and a lot of loose ends are tied up. We begin with Hamlet sharing his story with Horatio that he had promised in his letter. Hamlet had found out that Claudius only sent him to England for him to be immediately executed. To rectify this, Hamlet forged a new note on behalf of the Royal Danish family, which instead ordered for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern’s deaths. Hamlet feels no guilt for this, and believes that the two men got what they deserved. As a result of this, Hamlet is confident that it is time to take revenge on Claudius and get rid of him once and for all.
