Scene-by-Scene Analysis

Act 3 Scene 1

The plot thickens immensely in Act 3, and we see Iago in his natural element as a jealous, conniving, and manipulative liar hiding beneath a false friendly and honourable disposition. Cassio, in an effort to redeem himself, hires musicians for Othello as he seeks Desdemona to help him with his case to be reinstated. Iago enters, and informs Cassio that Emilia is on her way to help. Emilia joins the scene, and tells Cassio that she will take Cassio to speak privately with Desdemona.
