Rhyme

Rhyme is yet another important technique, particularly when exploring Othello’s loss of rationality. Use of rhyme by a character signifies their nobility and status in society. It can also be used to provide a ‘sing song’ quality to their speech. For example the Duke of Venice, who is of the highest authority states “If Virtue no delighted beauty lack, / Your son-in-law is more fair than black” (Act 1, Scene 1).
