- The Oklahoma Land Rush opened former Native American land to white settlement.
- Thousands of settlers rushed to claim land under federal law. On 22 April 1889, thousands of settlers lined up to race and claim 160-acre plots of land. There were 7 land rushes in total.
- This event was the final phase of westward expansion.
- Fraud and conflict were common during land distribution.
- By the 1890s, most Native Americans had been confined to reservations.
- The frontier was officially declared closed in 1890, and Indigenous control of land was largely destroyed.
