  • Rearranging formulae involving indices and products of variables can be more difficult
  • Example: x^2 + 2z + y = z, rearranging to make x the subject is more difficult
  • Steps involved in rearranging: get rid of power of 2 by taking square root of both sides
  • Example: 2y = ���(x+3), rearrange to make x the subject
  • Step 1: Perform inverse operation to +3, subtract 3 from both sides
  • Step 2: Perform inverse operation to square root, square both sides
  • Example: AB + C = BD - E, rearrange to make B the subject
  • Step 1: Perform inverse operation to +BD, subtract BD from both sides
  • Step 2: Perform inverse operation to +C, subtract C from both sides
  • Step 3: Factorize both sides to get B(A-D) = -(C+E)
  • Step 4: Perform inverse operation to multiply by -(A-D), divide both sides by (A-D)
  • Example: y = 2z^2 + 5, rearrange to make z the subject
  • Step 1: Perform inverse operation to +5, subtract 5 from both sides
  • Step 2: Perform inverse operation to multiply by 2, divide both sides by 2
  • Step 3: Perform inverse operation to square, take square root of both sides
