  • Most methods of solving quadratics require rearranging the equation to the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0
  • Quadratic can be solved by factorizing into double brackets and finding values of x that make one bracket equal to zero
  • Quadratic can also be solved using the quadratic formula
  • Completing the square can be used to solve the quadratic equation
  • When factorizing, brackets of the form ax - b = 0, x = b/a
  • Example: Solve x^2 - 1 = 10x - 2x^2
  • Steps: expand the bracket, reorganize the terms, simplify and reorder, find factor pairs of ac, find factor pair that adds to B, split the x term, factorize the two halves, factorize again to form a double bracket, determine values of x that make each bracket zero
  • Solutions to the quadratic equation are 2 and -1/3
