Angle Between a Tangent & the Radius
- The angle between a tangent and the radius at the point where the tangent touches the circle is a right angle
- The radius is the distance from the center of a circle to the edge
- The tangent is a straight line that touches the circle at a single point
- The shortest distance from a point to a line is the perpendicular from the point to the line
- The radius OD is the shortest distance from the center of the circle to the line AB
- Any other line from the center of the circle to AB will be longer than the perpendicular line OD
- OD must be perpendicular to AB since it is the shortest distance from the center of the circle to the line
