Comparing Two Values as a Fraction
- Fractions can be thought of as the numerator divided by the denominator
- Fractions can describe one number as being a fraction of another
- Manipulating and understanding fractions is an important mathematical skill
- To find a fraction of a number, rewrite as a division and simplify if possible
- When finding the fraction of a smaller number, the answer will be an improper fraction
- To find the fraction of a plank left over, convert units to be the same, rewrite as a division, simplify, and perform subtraction to find the fraction left over
