Composite Functions
- A composite function is a function where the output of one function is used as the input for a second function.
- The notation for a composite function is usually written as FG of X.
- To use the notation, we first work out the second function and then use the result as the input for the first function.
- The order of the functions in a composite function matters and will give different results.
- An example is given with the functions f of x = 2x - 1 and g of x = 3x + 1, and the composite function GF of X is found to be 6x - 2.
- Another example is given with the functions f of x = x + 1 and g of x = 2x, and it is shown that FG is not the same as GF.
