Defining Equations
- An equation is an equality between two mathematical expressions that is only true when the variables take certain values
- Solving an equation involves finding the values of the variables that satisfy the equality
- The solution to an equation is the point where the graphs of the two expressions meet
- There can be multiple solutions to an equation
- Equations are different from formulas and identities
- Formulas have an infinite number of possible values for the variables that make the expressions equal
- Identities are true for all values of the variable
